Shenzhen Bay Culture Square 深圳湾文化广场

Located in the Houhai area of Nanshan District, the cultural complex covers a total built area of 188,000 square meters, with four stories above ground and three below. The nine stone-shaped buildings draw their inspiration from boulders by the seashore. Arranged in a staggered layout between the city and the bay, they symbolize the tides, sea breezes, and drifting clouds of Shenzhen Bay.
Designed by Beijing‑based MAD Architects, led by architect Ma Yansong, the complex is operated by CR Land, a subsidiary of China Resources Group.

Shenzhen Bay Culture Square has officially signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with London’s Tate Modern, outlining plans for co‑organizing exhibitions, academic research, and international resource exchange. In a move to blend Chinese tradition with contemporary aesthetics, the square has also signed strategic agreements with two renowned domestic institutions: Rong Bao Zhai, a centuries‑old print studio in Beijing, and the Xiling Seal Art Society, a Hangzhou‑based arts organization. These partnerships aim to promote the integration of traditional Chinese crafts and contemporary design.
The square has also launched the Future Design Academy, an educational platform intended to foster innovative design concepts through public courses, workshops, and seminars.
